Privacy policy

The short version

Reel & Rig does not require an account, does not sell anything directly, and does not ask for personal information except on the contact form. We use Google Analytics to count visits, and affiliate links that tell a retailer we referred you. We do not sell or share your data with anyone.

What we collect

Contact form

If you use the contact form, we receive the name, email address and message you type. That is delivered to our mailbox by email so we can reply. We keep it for as long as the correspondence is useful and we do not add you to any mailing list — there is no mailing list.

The form also records the moment the page loaded and checks a hidden field that real people never fill in. Both are anti-spam measures, both are discarded immediately after the check, and neither identifies you.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are read and which buy links are clicked. It sets cookies and records a truncated IP address, the pages you view, the approximate region you are in, and your device type.

We look at this in aggregate to decide what to write next. We do not attempt to identify individual visitors, and we do not use it for advertising.

Server logs

Our hosting provider keeps standard access logs including IP address, timestamp, requested URL and user agent, for security and diagnostics.

What we do not collect

• No accounts, so no passwords and no profiles
• No payment details — we do not sell anything and never handle a transaction
• No mailing list and no newsletter signups
• No advertising or retargeting pixels
• No social media tracking widgets
• No fingerprinting or cross-site tracking scripts of our own

Affiliate links

Buy links route through /go/<merchant> on our own domain before forwarding you to the retailer. That redirect lets us count how many people clicked a particular link. It records the click, not you: we do not store an identifier for the person clicking.

When you arrive at the retailer, their tracking parameter tells them we referred you, and their own cookie and privacy practices apply from that point. If you later buy something, we receive a commission report showing that a sale occurred — not who made it, not your name, not your address, not your payment details.

Third parties

Only three, and each has its own policy that governs its own data:

• Google Analytics — visit measurement.
• Vercel — hosting and delivery, including server logs.
• Amazon — when you follow a buy link and leave this site.

Product images, where present, are served from Amazon’s image CDN, which means your browser makes a request to Amazon when a product photo loads.

Cookies

The only cookies set by this site are Google Analytics cookies. There are no advertising cookies, no preference cookies and nothing that follows you across other sites.

You can block them in your browser settings, or with any content blocker, and every page here works normally without them. Analytics failing to load never breaks a link or a page — that is deliberate.

Your choices

• Analytics: block cookies in your browser or use a content blocker. We do not attempt to work around either.
• Affiliate tracking: visit the retailer directly rather than through a link here. The price is the same; we simply earn nothing.
• Contact form data: email info@reelandrig.com and ask us to delete your correspondence. We will.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has sent us information through the contact form, email us and we will delete it.

Data location and security

This site is hosted on Vercel’s infrastructure. Contact form messages are delivered by email and stored in our mailbox. All traffic to this site is served over HTTPS.

We hold very little data, which is the most effective security measure available to us.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it. Material changes will be noted here rather than made silently.
